Personal Responsibility

Assurity’s sustainability task force, composed of home office associates, is working to raise environmental awareness among all of our associates and explore ideas for expanding our company’s sustainability efforts. The task force will also provide opportunities for associates to learn new ways to make their lives more environmentally conscious as well as to help reduce energy costs. Many Assurity associates have already incorporated green practices in their personal lives and can share a wealth of experience about green living.

A constant work in progress

Although we have already taken many steps to reduce Assurity’s environmental impact, our new home office will provide even more opportunities for us to conduct business in a sustainable manner, including:

• Promote use of public transportation; several bus stops are conveniently located near our new building.
• Close access to trails encourages commuting by walking or bicycling. Our facility provides areas for bicycle parking and amenities such as showers and changing rooms. Bicycling or walking to work will also count toward our wellness incentive.
• Provide incentives through designated parking and signage for driving high-efficiency and low-emitting vehicles.
• Explore additional ways to interact with our policyholders, distributors and other customers through electronic means.
• Expand our recycling efforts and the use of green office supplies and products; any “disposable” items should be 100 percent recyclable.
• Implement “green computing” options which involve the environmentally responsible use of computers and related resources.
• Increase our use of webinars and video conferencing to reduce travel.
• Monitor existing local environmental activities to involve Assurity and our associates in sustainable opportunities in the community.
